Cleaning batteries and battery compartments¶
although contamination, especially of the electrical contacts should be avoided, it is always possible that the contacts can become dirty and start to make less reliable contact.
Symptoms can be:
- An inserted battery does is not able to power up a Wireless device
- Pressing a battery harder into a Wireless device makes it able to power the device on
- An inserted battery does not start charging or never finishes charging
in these cases we strongly advice to Clean the complete inventory of NRGP and battery holders in wireless devices and chargers this, to prevent cross contamination from battery to charger/wireless device and vice versa.
Tools and materials for cleaning:
- IsoPropylAlcohol - also known as IPA
- Foam Cleaning swabs NO cotton swabs
Cleaning an NRGP¶
- Lightly dampen a swab with IPA
- Gently rub the swab over the batteries contacts until contamination dissolves and the contacts are visually clean
- Wait several minutes until the residual IPA is evaporated before operating the battery
- Regularly re-dampen the cleaning swab and replace if visually dirty
Cleaning an Battery slot¶
Attention: Do NOT attempt to clean a battery slot when a the device is powered
- Remove the 12V power supply to a charger before starting the cleaning
- Remove any USB power supply before cleaning a wireless device
- Lightly dampen a swab with IPA
- Insert the swab horizontally into the battery slot.
